Attendance

Attendance at Victory Primary School

At Victory Primary School, we know that regular attendance is one of the most important factors in a child’s learning and wellbeing. When tamariki are at school every day, they build strong relationships, develop confidence, and make consistent progress in their learning.

We see attendance as a shared responsibility between school and whānau. By working together, we can ensure every child has the best opportunity to succeed.

Our Attendance Approach

All schools in Aotearoa are required to have an Attendance Management Plan, which outlines how we support regular attendance and respond when attendance becomes a concern.

At Victory Primary School, our approach is grounded in:

  • Strong relationships with tamariki and whānau

  • Early identification of attendance patterns

  • Supportive and mana-enhancing responses

  • Working together to remove barriers to attendance

Our plan includes clear processes and support at different stages, so that every child is given the right level of support at the right time.

Our STAR (Stepped Attendance Response)

We use the Stepped Attendance Response (STAR) to guide how we respond to attendance. This means:

  • We monitor attendance regularly

  • We communicate early if concerns arise

  • We increase support if attendance declines

  • We work alongside whānau to find solutions

As part of this process, we are required to make contact when attendance moves between stages. This ensures that no child slips through the gaps and that support is put in place early.

What we Ask of Whānau

Whānau play a crucial role in supporting attendance. You can help by:

  • Ensuring your child attends school every day

  • Letting us know as soon as possible if your child is absent

  • Providing a reason for all absences

  • Working with us if attendance becomes a concern

There is a reason behind every absence, and we are here to support you if challenges arise.

Working Together for Success

Regular attendance helps tamariki to:

  • Stay connected with their learning

  • Build friendships and a sense of belonging

  • Develop positive habits for the future

A strong attendance system supports quality learning and helps create the conditions for tamariki to thrive.

At Victory Primary School, we are committed to working in partnership with our community to ensure every child is present, engaged, and achieving.
