Ka whānau mai te pēpi,

Ka takaia ki te harakeke.

Ka noho te harakeke, hei kākahu, hei rongoā, hei mea tākaro,

Hei oranga mōna a mate noa ia.

Āhuatanga o te Ākonga
Our Graduate Profile

Our graduate profile was developed in collaboration with students, whānau, hapori, hapū and iwi and represents the six main qualities and characteristics of a graduate of Ngā Mana Kākano o te Wairepo. These underpin our programmes, organisation and interaction between tamariki, whānau, kaiako, hapori, hapū and iwi.

Te Reo me ōna Tikanga
Māori Language and Customs

‘Ko tōku reo tōku ohoho, ko tōku reo tōku mapihi mauria’

My language is my awakening, my language is the window to my soul.

Use te reo Māori me ōna tikanga competently and confidently in a range of situations.

Ekea Te Taumata
Aim for Success

‘Whāia te iti kahurangi, ki te tuohu koe me he manga teitei’

Aim for the highest cloud so that if you miss it, you will hit a lofty mountain.

Strive to reach my full potential and beyond in all areas.

Whakapapa
Self-knowledge

‘E kore au e ngaro, he kākano i ruia mai i rangiātea’

Asserts that to know yourself, your whakapaka and cultural heritage, is to never be lost. Embedded in the Whakataukī is the vision that a māori identity will not fade: it is derived from ancestors, passed down from generation to generation, and lives on in our mokopuna.

A strong sense of who I am, where I come from and my future aspirations.

Manaakitanga
Care and Respect

‘Kia māhaki mārire tōna mauri, kia noho mārire tōna mana motuhake, kia ngākau māhaki ki ōna hoa tae atu hoki ki ngā iwi whānui’

Be content, be humble, be open hearted towards friends and all people.

Respectful, kind and hospitable towards others.

Rangatiratanga
Leadership and Self-determination

‘Ka pū te ruha, ka hao te rangatahi’

As an old net withers another is remade.

Demonstrate leadership and self-determination with a strong and sound character.

Whanaungatanga
Relationships

‘Kaua e rangiruatia te hapai o te hoe e kore to tātou waka e u ki uta’

Let us all row in unison so our waka will reach the shore.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with others.
