Tangata Tiriti Workshop

Learning about Te Tiriti o Waitangi is an ongoing journey, and opportunities to continue these important conversations in safe and welcoming spaces are incredibly valuable for our wider community.

We would like to share an upcoming free workshop, “Te Tiriti o Waitangi: Next Steps”, hosted by Tangata Tiriti Workshop.

This extended workshop is designed for those who have previously attended a Te Tiriti o Waitangi workshop, or something similar, and are interested in deepening their understanding further. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect, ask questions, and continue building confidence to engage in conversations around Te Tiriti and its place within Aotearoa New Zealand today.

The workshop aims to:
• deepen understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• provide a safe and welcoming space for discussion and reflection
• support participants to build confidence engaging in important conversations
• encourage continued learning and connection within our communities

Jo Robertson - “The Lost Boys of the West”

Understanding the challenges facing boys in today’s world can feel overwhelming at times, especially as parents and caregivers navigate the growing influence of social media, online spaces, and changing societal pressures.

We are pleased to share an upcoming community presentation, “The Lost Boys of the West”, facilitated by therapist, researcher, and educator Jo Robertson.

This thought-provoking evening will explore the current state of boys’ wellbeing, the risks young people may face both online and offline, and the growing impact of the digital world on boys and young men. The session will also consider the implications for parents, caregivers, educators, and professionals who support tamariki and rangatahi.

Topics explored will include:
• the wellbeing and experiences of boys today
• risks to self and others
• the influence of boys’ digital ecosystems
• practical insights for parents and professionals supporting young people

Jo Robertson - Left to their own Devices, Parenting in the Digital Era

Navigating parenting in the digital world can feel challenging at times, and we know many whānau are looking for practical ways to support tamariki as technology becomes an increasingly important part of everyday life.

We are pleased to share an upcoming parenting course, “Left to Their Own Devices: Parenting in the Digital Era”, facilitated by therapist, researcher, and advocate Jo Robertson.

This workshop will explore practical strategies for supporting children and young people online, creating healthy digital habits, and strengthening communication within families. The session aims to help whānau feel more informed and confident when navigating topics such as devices, social media, online safety, and digital wellbeing.

The evening will cover:
• supporting children and young people in the digital age
• building healthy online habits and boundaries
• understanding the impact of devices and social media
• strengthening communication and connection within families

AI Explained - A Parent Workshop

We are excited to share a free parent workshop coming to Nelson, hosted by elevate_ai. This practical session, “AI Explained”, is designed to help whānau better understand artificial intelligence and the growing role it plays in our everyday lives and in education.

The workshop will explore:
• practical AI tools for daily life
• how AI is being used to support learning and education
• ways families can prepare for an AI-driven future

This is a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to build their confidence and understanding in a rapidly changing digital world. Whether you are completely new to AI or already curious about how it can support your whānau, this session aims to be engaging, practical, and easy to understand.

Kathryn Berkett - Educational Psychologist & Neuroscience Specialist

Life Education Nelson Tasman is hosting two free workshops with the engaging and inspiring Kathryn Berkett, whose expertise in neuroscience and child development is renowned across Aotearoa. Kathryn’s presentations are grounded in research but brought to life with real-world strategies that are especially relevant for educators, support staff, and whānau alike.

Her workshops explore how we can better support tamariki who experience strong emotions, and how we can create more effective learning environments using knowledge of the brain and emotional regulation.
