Parenting in a new culture can be both exciting and challenging. This free full-day workshop hosted by Shama, Multicultural Nelson Tasman, and Victory Community Centre is designed to help whānau feel more confident and informed about parenting in Aotearoa.
Topics include:
Cultural influences on parenting styles
NZ laws, children’s rights, and developmental needs
Positive parenting tips and techniques that honour both cultural identity and wellbeing

Let’s Talk, Kids Workshop

Shama, in partnership with Multicultural Nelson Tasman and Victory Community Centre, invites parents and caregivers to a free, welcoming workshop focused on building strong relationships with tamariki and keeping them safe.
This interactive session will support you to:
strengthen trust between you and your child
learn practical strategies to support children’s wellbeing
connect with other whānau from diverse cultural backgrounds

Kathryn Berkett - Educational Psychologist & Neuroscience Specialist
Life Education Nelson Tasman is hosting two free workshops with the engaging and inspiring Kathryn Berkett, whose expertise in neuroscience and child development is renowned across Aotearoa. Kathryn’s presentations are grounded in research but brought to life with real-world strategies that are especially relevant for educators, support staff, and whānau alike.
Her workshops explore how we can better support tamariki who experience strong emotions, and how we can create more effective learning environments using knowledge of the brain and emotional regulation.

Tuesday 20 May | 4.00pm – 5.30pm | Richmond (Venue TBC)
Wednesday 21 May | 9.00am – 10.30am | Auckland Point School, Nelson
These sessions are free to attend, and we encourage interested kaiako and whānau to come along.
